MooGoo make a Moothpaste for every mouth in the house, from sensitive teeth to the fussiest little brushers.
The Australian brand MooGoo has updated their Moothpaste formula, their cheeky name for a natural toothpaste, and released a whole kids' range with flavours that make brushing fun. Finding a natural, fluoride-free toothpaste that works and does not taste too spicy is no small thing, especially with kids in the house.
There are three Moothpastes for the adults: the updated Whitening Peppermint, now with Theobromine alongside its hydroxyapatite, a Sensitive formula that pairs the same two with Arginine, and a Watermelon & Mint. And the kids get four flavours of their own. First, a quick word on what those key ingredients are doing in your toothpaste.
What Is Hydroxyapatite?
Hydroxyapatite is the mineral your tooth enamel is made of, so brushing with it gives your teeth the raw material to remineralise. All the adult MooGoo toothpaste includes hydroxyapatite, I have written a full explainer on hydroxyapatite toothpaste if you want the full science.
What Is Theobromine?
Theobromine comes from the cocoa plant, and MooGoo use it to harden enamel and make teeth more resistant to acid damage. Together with hydroxyapatite it is their fluoride alternative: the pair work to remineralise enamel and help strengthen teeth.
Does MooGoo Toothpaste Use Nano or Non-Nano Hydroxyapatite?
The Whitening Peppermint uses non-nano hydroxyapatite, while the Sensitive uses the nano form, and there is a specific reason for this, the nano particles needed to be small enough to travel into the exposed tubules of a sensitive tooth and seal them from within, which blocks the fluid movement that causes the pain. And the shape counts as much as the size: MooGoo use rod-shaped nano particles, 60 nanometres in size, not the needle-like kind that gave nano a bad name, and the rod shape has been assessed as safe for oral care. If your teeth twinge, the Sensitive is your one. The Watermelon & Mint keeps the same calcium hydroxyapatite and Theobromine pairing.
MooGoo Whitening Peppermint Moothpaste
The MooGoo Whitening Peppermint Moothpaste is the one for the whole family, including anyone with sensitive teeth. It has been updated to include even more remineralising ingredients. It still uses vegan Calcium Hydroxyapatite to strengthen enamel and reduce sensitivity, but it now includes Theobromine as well. It also features Xylitol, a natural sweetener that helps reduce the ability of bacteria to stick to the teeth. It uses Calcium Carbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate to naturally polish and whiten without harsh scrubbing, and is flavoured with a light, refreshing peppermint oil.
MooGoo Sensitive Moothpaste
The MooGoo Sensitive Moothpaste is made for sensitive teeth and gums. It combines three remineralising ingredients, nano Hydroxyapatite, Theobromine and Arginine, which work together to help rebuild enamel and physically seal tiny gaps in the teeth. Xylitol helps keep plaque and bacteria from sticking, while Stevia Leaf Extract provides a gentle sweetness without added sugar. It naturally whitens without harsh abrasives and comes in a light peppermint flavour.
MooGoo Watermelon & Mint Moothpaste
The MooGoo Watermelon & Mint Moothpaste is the fun one for the grown-ups. It uses Hydroxyapatite and Theobromine to help rebuild enamel, reduce sensitivity and support strong, healthy teeth. The pair fill in tiny surface cracks and scratches, so bacteria have nowhere to settle. Xylitol helps keep plaque and bacteria from sticking, and Stevia Leaf Extract adds a gentle sweetness without sugar. It naturally whitens without harsh abrasives.
What Is in the MooGoo Kids Toothpaste, and Why?
The kids toothpaste range works differently, and it comes down to swallowing. Little kids swallow toothpaste, so MooGoo built their natural children’s toothpaste as an edible gel that skips the hydroxyapatite and uses gentle Silica to clean away plaque, surface stains and food debris without harming delicate enamel, with Xylitol to help reduce plaque buildup. Every flavour is safe if small amounts are swallowed, with an enamel-friendly pH, and free from fluoride, SLS, artificial colours and titanium dioxide.
MooGoo Kids Strawberries & Cream Moothpaste
Getting toddlers and kids to brush their teeth without a fuss is always the goal, and the MooGoo Kids Strawberries & Cream Moothpaste makes it so much easier, even for the fussiest of brushers. The natural strawberry flavour is light, fruity, and very popular with younger children.
MooGoo Kids Vanilla Ice Cream Moothpaste
If your kids find traditional mint toothpastes too spicy or strong, the MooGoo Kids Vanilla Ice Cream Moothpaste is a brilliant alternative. The flavour is sweet and comforting, closer to dessert than to toothpaste. There is none of the stinging sensation that can make brushing difficult for sensitive kids.
MooGoo Kids Watermelon Sherbet Moothpaste
For kids who love a fresh, fruity flavour, the MooGoo Kids Watermelon Sherbet Moothpaste is the pick. It uses the same safe formula to gently remove plaque and surface stains leftover from dinner, without damaging the enamel.
MooGoo Kids Blueberry Smoothie Moothpaste
The MooGoo Kids Blueberry Smoothie Moothpaste is for older kids, or anyone after a change of pace.
Is MooGoo Toothpaste Fluoride Free?
Yes. Every Moothpaste in the range, adult and kids, is a fluoride free, SLS free toothpaste, made without titanium dioxide, saccharin or artificial colours. The remineralising work is done by hydroxyapatite, the same mineral your tooth enamel is made of, instead of fluoride.
Why doesn't Moothpaste foam?
If you are new to natural toothpaste, you might notice these don't create a mouthful of bubbles. That foaming action in conventional toothpastes usually comes from SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), which MooGoo completely leaves out because it can be irritating for sensitive mouths, so the whole range is SLS free. Natural cleansers do not create that big lather, and they do not need to, because foam does not equal clean. The ingredients and your brushing technique are doing all the hard work, leaving the mouth feeling fresh without the bubble bath effect.
