I have dry skin and I mostly use a foam. It all depends on how my skin feels on the day.
Did you know that foaming cleansers suit far more skin types than oily and combination? They get a bit of a bad rap for being drying because so many of those mainstream foaming face washes contain SLSs and harsh preservatives that can leave the skin feeling tight and uncomfortable. But because natural formulas are so gentle, there really is a foaming cleanser for everyone, so if you love that rich, fluffy feel but have dry or mature skin, I've got you covered too.
After 15 years of selling natural skincare, I've narrowed it down to a few of my favourites for each skin type to make it easy to find the right one for you.
Dry skin
I have dry skin and I mostly use a foam, swapping to a milk or cream cleanser when my skin is feeling extra dry. It all depends on how my skin feels on the day. My all time favourite foam cleanser is the Andalou Sensitive 1000 Roses Gentle Cleansing Foam. It has a light, airy lather and is made with alpine rose stem cells, postbiotics, aloe vera, vitamin E and white tea, and it leaves the skin looking super clean and feeling comfortable. It's also my step two in a double-cleansing routine.
Another great option is the Acure Ultra Hydrating Green Juice Cleanser. This one has a unique formula made with lots of my favourite herbs and adaptogens including ashwagandha, holy basil, reishi and turmeric, along with kale, spinach, neem and spirulina, and it's made for dry skin.
Mature skin
For mature skin, we want our foaming cleansers full of natural brightening ingredients like citrus, turmeric, lactic acid and AHAs to tackle sun damage, age spots and uneven tone, and to slough away dead skin cells to promote a nice healthy cell turnover.
My first favourite is the KORA Organics Turmeric Glow Foaming Cleanser, which is certified organic and made with turmeric and a natural sugar complex that helps hold moisture in the skin after rinsing. It gives the skin a thorough cleanse while leaving it looking soft, smooth and glowing.
I also love the LAMAV Sweet Orange Balancing Cleanser. This is an oldie but a goodie and is always on my bestsellers list. It's also certified organic and made with lactic acid and naturally derived fruit AHAs to gently resurface and brighten the complexion.
Oily and blemish-prone skin
Oily and blemish-prone skin loves foaming cleansers, but the goal here is balance. You want enough clarifying action to remove excess oil and give the pores a deep cleanse, without stripping away the skin's natural oils and making things worse.
The Noosa Basics Foaming Face Wash for Acne-Prone Skin is a fantastic option. It's made with tea tree, neroli water and willow bark, which is a natural source of salicylic acid to help clear buildup from the pores.
The Botani Rescue Acne Foaming Cleanser takes a similar path, salicylic acid from willow bark, with Australian lemon myrtle and Roman chamomile to help calm redness.
Sensitive and reactive skin
For sensitive and reactive skin, I always say less is more. We want to keep the ingredients as simple as possible. For sensitive skin, I love the MooGoo brand. All of the MooGoo skincare products are made for reactive skin. They have a great Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser that's made with calendula to help calm redness and irritation.
My other pick is the Lavera Basis Sensitiv Cleansing Gel. This is a lightly foaming gel cleanser made with organic aloe vera, jojoba oil and mallow flower extract, and it's certified natural.
