Weleda Skin Food Super Serum - Everything You Need to Know

A milky, hydrating serum built on the legendary Skin Food formula

The original Weleda Skin Food is one of the most loved products in the world, and the formula hasn't changed since 1926. That's 100 years, making it one of the longest-standing skincare formulas still in production, and a true cult classic.

Weleda has since expanded the Skin Food range with a face care line inspired by the original, but designed to be used as a full skincare routine. You can read all about the face care here.

As you know, I love my face serums and oils, plus I have dry skin, so I was pretty excited to try the new Skin Food Super Serum. It's a certified natural, milky serum based on the signature Skin Food Phyto-Infusion blend, with added hydrating actives. And it comes in a beautiful green glass bottle with a dropper.

What's in the Weleda Skin Food Super Serum?

Hyaluronic acid: The hydration active

The main active is hyaluronic acid, a humectant that draws moisture into the skin and helps hold it there. It can bind a large amount of water relative to its size, which is what gives skin that instant plump, dewy feeling after a serum or moisturiser.

Ceramide NP: The barrier active

The second key active is Ceramide NP, a lipid naturally found in the skin. Ceramides act like glue that holds skin cells together, making up around half of the skin's intercellular lipids by weight. They help reduce moisture loss and support the skin barrier.

The two work brilliantly together: hyaluronic acid draws moisture in, and ceramides lock it in.

Phyto-Infusion: The original 1926 botanical blend

The Skin Food Phyto-Infusion is a signature blend of four organic botanicals that runs through the entire Skin Food range: calendula, chamomile, rosemary and wild pansy, known for their calming, soothing and moisturising properties. I've shared more on this blend and its history in this guide.

Organic plant oils: A nourishing base

The serum also contains nourishing organic plant oils, including vitamin-rich apricot kernel oil and jojoba oil.

Backed by clinical results

In clinical testing, 100% of participants showed an instant increase in hydration after a single application. After two weeks, all of them said their skin felt more moisturised, and 93% said it felt softer. After four weeks, 83% said it felt more nourished.

How to use the Weleda Skin Food Super Serum

If you want to build a full Skin Food routine, start with the Skin Food Cleansing Balm, apply the serum, then follow with the Skin Food Day Cream in the morning or the Skin Food Night Cream at night.

It also works on its own as a hydrating serum under any moisturiser or face oil. Apply a few drops to clean, dry skin and gently pat in, morning and evening.
