The Vanessa Megan The Butterfly Effect Medical-Grade Silicone LED Neck Mask is an at-home LED light therapy device shaped for the neck and décolletage, using four wavelengths of light to target the appearance of crepiness, slackness, redness and uneven tone. This is the NIR Edition, the current generation of the mask, with 240 LED chips set one per bead so each wavelength reaches the skin pure rather than blended.
The neck and chest tend to show age before the face does. The skin here is thinner, has fewer oil glands and cops years of sun exposure while most of the attention goes above the jawline. The curved medical-grade silicone body wraps the throat and upper chest and holds its shape against the contours, keeping the LEDs sitting close to the skin where the light can reach it.
The mask emits 20 to 30mW/cm2, low enough to allow a 20 minute session without the risk of heat-induced melasma. The near-infrared setting is controlled independently, so it can run on its own or at the same time as any of the other three colours.
The four wavelengths:
- Red (630nm), anti-ageing: improves cell activity, speeds metabolism and promotes collagen formation, helping increase elasticity and tighten the look of the neck and décolletage.
- Blue (460nm), clarity: targets the appearance of breakouts and pigmentation across the chest and neck while helping calm the look of congested skin. Blue is the one setting capped at 10 minutes.
- Yellow (590nm), even skin tone: balances skin texture and stimulates red blood cell activity to reduce the look of redness and soften the appearance of fine lines.
- Near-infrared (850nm), deep repair: penetrates further than visible light to support circulation and skin moisture levels, for a firmer, smoother look through the neck and chest. New to this generation of the mask.
Maximum session time is 10 minutes on blue light and 20 minutes on every other colour. Vanessa Megan recommends five sessions a week with a minimum of 24 hours between them while you are working on a specific concern, easing back once your skin has settled. LED light therapy is non-invasive, involves no downtime and suits most skin types, and results build with continued use.
