What magnesium oil is, where to spray it, why it can sting and my three favourite sprays.

How I Use My Magnesium Spray, and Why It Stings

I spray a little on my fingertips and massage my temples, and I really feel instantly calm and relaxed.

I've been using magnesium oil since 2013. I love a warm magnesium bath after work, it's my all-time favourite thing to do, but I don't always have the time, and I know I can get the same benefits from a quick magnesium spray.

What is magnesium spray?

Magnesium spray is magnesium oil, which is magnesium chloride dissolved in water. It also comes in an oil or gel roll-on format. There's traditionally no oil in it. The name comes from the slightly oily feel it has on the skin. It's the same magnesium chloride found in bath flakes.

Magnesium spray has so many benefits

A magnesium spray is a super handy way to use magnesium oil on the go. It's great for adding to massage oil for a relaxing massage, and wonderful for tired and sore muscles because you can spray it directly where you need it. I spray it over a tight neck before bed, or I spray a little on my fingertips and massage my temples, and I really feel instantly calm and relaxed.

Where do I spray magnesium oil, and when?

Amazing You recommend 4 to 5 sprays on the upper body in the morning, and the same on the lower body in the evening. They also suggest choosing spots where the skin is thin for easy absorption. Massage it in and there's no need to wash it off.

Why does magnesium oil sting?

A tingle or an itch is common the first few times. I've been told by lots of magnesium brands that this can be a sign of having low magnesium and that it should go away after using it regularly, but it can also be a bit stingy on dry or freshly shaved skin. Just start with one or two sprays, apply a moisturiser first, or if magnesium oils are a bit too strong, swap to a cream, which is a lot milder. Be sure to keep it away from the eyes and any broken skin.

My magnesium oil spray picks

1. Elektra Magnesium Oil Spritz has over 60% magnesium chloride salt and around 300mg of elemental magnesium in six sprays. It's made with vegetable glycerine and essential oils of mandarin, juniper berry and rosalina, so it has a soft, calming scent. And we also have a 10ml mini, which is great for the handbag or as a trial.

2. Amazing You Daily Magnesium Spray is pure magnesium chloride with nothing added, and five sprays give around 100mg of elemental magnesium.

3. Black Chicken Remedies Relax My Body Magnesium Oil Spray combines pure Tibetan magnesium chloride with certified organic chamomile and lavender flower waters, and it's great for the legs, feet or back before bed.
